2nd Annual MRF

All Military National Racquetball Championships
(November 13-15, 2009)

THANK YOU to all who came out for the 2nd annual MRF All Military National Racquetball Championships.  Military Racquetball Federation (MRF) hosted its second annual Military Racquetball Championships, at both the Marine Corp Recruiting Depot (MCRD) and 32nd Street Naval Base, which was a huge success.  Over 280 matches were played and the results will be updated very shortly.  There were some outstanding matches- real dog fights- but everyone seemed to really enjoy the opportunity to play!

Saturday night was highlighted by the MRF banquet to honor our ranking champions for the year, listed on the website, but also a touching moment when Commander Dean Buck (Ret.) - a highly decorated serviceman who had served in 3 wars - gave a speech about the birth and epoch of racquetball in San Diego.  He was introduced by Command Master Chief Chris Scarano of VFA 137, stationed at NAS Lemoore, CA.

Another Special Thanks to Master Chief Kevin Brylski who surprisingly presented US flags which were flown onboard the USS RONALD REAGAN in October 2009 to Jack Hughes, Hank Marcus and Peggine Tellez for their contribution to the Armed Services.

One of the other off court highlights was a clinic by MRF sponsoring E-Force pros Chris Crowther & Tim Doyle.

The success of the event was due to the overwhelming support of our staff and volunteers who support this event & MRF.  Special thanks to Jack Hughes, Terry Rogers, Sofia O’Laughlin, Don Volland, Chhem Young-Pen, Jimmy & Yvette Vequezo, Aaron Embry, Pete Chmielewski, and Herman Brooks – we really appreciated your time and efforts.  MRF and all our players wish to thank the sponsors who help make this event the center piece of military racquetball; Racquet World, Ektelon, E-Force, Southwest Region MWR, and the great hospitality provided by Macaroni Grill, Chick-fil-A & BJ’s Restaurant (all of Chula Vista, California).

We at MRF hope that those who competed this year enjoyed a weekend of competition and camaraderie will be back again next year.  We look forward to the 2010 MRF All Military National Racquetball Championships being bigger and better.

Thanks again for supporting MRF!!
